Orchestra News 9/25/2017

DHS Orchestra Parents,

Hello and Good Afternoon! For those of you who have not met me yet, my name is Daniel Rodriguez and I am the Director of Orchestra at Durant High School. I wanted to give everyone an update on what has been going on with the DHS Orchestra Program and information to those who are not familiar with the program.

First and foremost, I would like to say that I am honored to have each and every one of your students in the Orchestra Program. They have all been working very hard to prepare for the first concert of the year!!! The date of that concert is October 11th, at 7:00 PM; I hope to see you all there!

For our new parents, Charms is our way main way of communication. All paperwork, field trip forms, music, etc. is posted on this website under “Orchestra Documents”. If you are a first time user of Charms, the school code is Durant and the password is your child’s STUDENT ID. Another method of communication I use is the “Remind” application. This app allows me to make announcements to students and parents via mobile device. If you are not a part of the DHS Orchestra Remind, I have attached a PDF file that guides you on how to join (you don’t even need to download the app to sign up!).

Chamber Orchestra rehearses after school every Monday from 2:15pm to 3:15pm. As we come closer to the end of the semester and into January, I will add extra rehearsals. These rehearsals are MANDATORY for this ensemble. In order to continue growth and development for this ensemble, this class has become CO-CURRICULAR. This means that after school rehearsals are tied to academic curriculum they receive during school hours, which in turn affects their grade. Please refer to the DHS Orchestra Handbook on Charms (under Orchestra Documents) for more information on after school rehearsals.

At the beginning of the year, I handed out paperwork to every student that required parent signatures, contact information, notarization, concert attire rental, etc. This paperwork was due August 25th and I still have several students who have not turned in any paperwork. This paperwork is CRUCIAL to your student’s success as it allows them to fully participate in the Orchestra program. If students do not turn in their paperwork, they will be unable to attend/perform at our Music Performance Assessment (MPA), school concerts, Solo & Ensemble, attend any trips, etc. If you have not received any paperwork from your child, it is online on Charms to print for your convenience (under Orchestra Documents).
