Band Update Post-Irma

Good afternoon CPMB family,

As sit here in one of our local Starbucks composing this message (like many of you Jamie and I still do not have power) I still can’t help but think how blessed we are.  Once of the most devastating storms on record came through our area and, from what I have noticed on Facebook, everyone made it through with little to no damage.  I have seen photos of students helping students in times of need and countless members of our band family open their homes to those of us still without power. It never ceases to amaze me how people band together (no pun intended) in times of need and, give so selflessly of their time and effort. It is my sincerest hope that our CPMB family will to continue this sense of community, fellowship and good will as we move forward.

I know a lot of you have questions in regards to upcoming events and what “the plan” will be once we return to a school. This message aims to provide that information…at least as much of it as I can at this time.

As you know, schools are scheduled to re-open Monday, which means that until that date, no activities on campus are permitted to take place. Unfortunately, that includes our rehearsals as well as our rehearse-a-thon. By Monday, the CPMB will have lost over 17 hours of rehearsal time. In an effort to recover some of these hours, the following rehearsal date sand times will be added to the calendar. Those of you that know me know that I do not just add additional rehearsal dates to our already busy calendar. However, these are extenuating circumstances and need to be added. The following dates and times will be added to our rehearsal schedule:

Friday, September 29 (4:00 – 8:00) – Bye week for football

Saturday, September 30 (9:00 – 4:00) – This will replace our rehearse-a-thon

Friday, October 6 (4:00-8:00) – This is the night before WCI and will give us the opportunity to put final touches on our show.

In addition, our monthly booster meeting has been rescheduled and will be held on Tuesday September 19th at 6:30 in the DHS chorus room. The main focus of this meeting will be the West Coast Invitational, which is now only 3 weeks away. This event is one of our organization’s biggest fundraiser of the year and we need every family involved so please make plans to attend! We are currently up to 16 performing ensembles, which is fantastic!

I also know that some of you have questions regarding the New York trip. Please know that I am waiting on a large information packet from the travel company and will answer as many questions as I am able to.  Once the information is received I will pass it on to all of you. I thank you for your patience and understanding!

Lastly, PEPSI WARS!!!! It is that time of year again when the class that brings in the most PEPSI, DIET PEPSI, SPRITE, or AQUA FINA will win pizza party and individual that brings in the most will get to pie me in the face at our last rehearsal. Please make sure your NAME and GRADE are clearly marked on EACH package you bring in. We want to make sure everyone gets credit for what they bring in! AND, to sweeten the pot…students that bring in 5 or more packs will receive a FREE pass off!!!

Again, I hope all of our CPMB families are seeing the light at the end of the “Irma Tunnel”. Have a great week and I sincerely hope to see all of you at our meeting on Tuesday evening.

Mr. H
