Weekly Music Notes 8/14/2017

Greetings to all Cougar Pride Marching Band family members!

It is hard to believe the new school year has launched and we are already experiencing the joy of making music here at Durant. Thank you for your support, and particularly for encouraging your child to continue their study of music. This investment of time, effort and energy will produce lifelong dividends. To all of our new family members, welcome to the CPMB family! I know I speak for everyone when I say that we are blessing and a privilege to have you with us and hope that you will take an active part in our organization.

Every week throughout the year you will be receiving emails from me entitled, “Weekly Music Notes”. These messages are indented to help keep our large family informed of upcoming events and other pertinent information regarding the CPMB. I would also encourage you to log in to the Charms web page (Charmsoffice.com) for news, to volunteer for any of our events, and for any updates to the CPMB performance calendar, on a regular basis. It will take some getting used to but I can assure you that checking Charms will be a huge asset to you and our students.

Speaking of our students, I think you will all agree that they did an outstanding job last Saturday at our “Friends and Family” performance. They worked extremely hard during band camp, the two weeks prior and the band staff and I could not be any more proud of their hard work and dedication. The CPMB is definitely off to a great start!

Here are some upcoming events that I want everyone to be aware of as we get into the full swing of marching season:

CPMB Weekly Rehearsals – This week (8/14/2017) starts our Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals from 4-7 and 4-8, respectively. NOTE: the battery (snares/tenors/basses) rehearse on Mondays from 4-7 pm.  Please remember attendance is mandatory for all members of the CPMB.

Tuesday, August 15 – Booster Meeting: This is the first booster meeting of the school year and will begin at 6:30pm. There is no membership fee and meetings are open to all members of the CPMB family. Please join us as many topics will be discussed…especially our biggest fundraiser of the year, the West Coast Invitational and our spring trip to New York (deposit and payments dates can be found on Charms)!!

Friday, August 18 – Home Game vs Blake: This is a preseason game and the band will not be in our traditional uniform. The band will wear their green shirts, blue shorts and ball caps.

Saturday, September 2– USF HOT Day: This is an awesome event sponsored by the USF Herd of Thunder Marching Band and is open to all of our students. HOT Day offers high students from around the state the opportunity to perform side by side with the Herd of Thunder during their half time performance at Raymond James Stadium. Details for this event are attached to this email. Please note that registration information is time sensitive and I must adhere to the deadlines set forth. Please email me with any questions.  Click here for registration packet & information!

Lastly, please download and read through the Student Handbook, which is contained on the main page of Charms. Once you read through the handbook, please print and sign the last two pages and return them to me no later than Friday, August 18th. This will let me know that all of you have read through the CPMB Handbook and understand the policies and procedures contained within.

Again, it truly is a privilege to have all of you in the CPMB family. Thank you for your support of music education here at Durant. I hope you know that each of you play an important role in the continued success of our students. Welcome back and go Cougars!

Warmest Regards,

Mr. H
